On Saturday, the members of the "Moldova Vrea Autostradă" Association drew attention to the need to build the A8 highway. MVA representatives are confident that the event called "Batem toba pentru Autostrada A8", which was organized in Iaşi Unirii square, will be able to draw attention to the urgency of realizing the A8 highway, better known as "Unirii Autópalya". This highway would connect Iaşi with the western part of Romania and the Republic of Moldova through the city of Ungheni. "This event sends a clear message to the authorities. The sound of the drums conveys the voice of citizens who demand safer roads and modern infrastructure that meets the needs of the region. One of the ways is to encourage the authorities as an NGO to start the works as soon as possible," said Flavius Manea, President of the "Moldova Vrea Autostradă" Association.
Former prefect Nicuşor Păduraru, who is one of the founders of the association, was among those who appeared on Unirii Square on Saturday. He criticized the delay in the start of the "Unirii Autopálya" works, because the documentation does not receive adequate support at the local and governmental level, and because of the lack of strategic interest of the governments in the past thirty years to develop Moldova. "Infrastructure means development from every point of view, and economic growth means stability and reduces poverty," he emphasized. Similarly, the former Secretary of State for Transport, Adrian Covăsnianu, a founding member of the MVA, highlighted the importance of such a road infrastructure that would connect the east and west of the country and promote the development of Moldovan counties. "Although the weather is not favorable, we want this event to reach Bucharest, because Moldova needs the A8 highway. We see that the tenders for the mountain routes have not yet been announced. We are waiting for the completion of the feasibility study of the Iași section. We hope that maybe next year we will receive clear signals about the construction of the highway. Let's see where there are already highways, how quickly economies have grown, how communities have developed, and how people enjoy a better quality of life," Covăsnianu pointed out.
In addition to the interactive "drumming" moments, a signature collection campaign was launched in support of the A8 motorway, and dialogue points were created where citizens could make suggestions for the development of the region's road infrastructure.
